Iranian forces downed an American Apache helicopter overnight while it patrolled the Strait of Hormuz, though both pilots were safely recovered. “The United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” Trump stated in a direct warning following the incident.

Tehran Doubles Down With Defiant Language
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi declared that foreign military forces should vacate the strategically vital waterway. “Iran prefers the language of diplomacy. However, as our Brave Warriors have shown to the world, we know how to speak other languages too,” Araghchi said on social media.
Foreign forces in proximity to our territory are at constant risk on account of their own human errors, plain accidents, or potentially being caught in crossfire.

Araghchi characterized the Strait of Hormuz as shared Iranian-Omani waters rather than international territory, directly challenging the U.S. military presence. He warned that foreign forces face ongoing risk from “human errors, plain accidents, or potentially being caught in crossfire.”
Diplomatic Window Closes
The exchange suggests Iranian leadership has rejected repeated opportunities for negotiated settlement, according to Trump’s assessment. Officials indicate the administration views continued Iranian military actions as confirmation that diplomatic channels have been exhausted.
